Validation

I have been thinking about starting a blog since I left work 2 months ago, then yesterday an event happened that I would like to share so away I go....

I was at Shoppers Drug Mart at KP mall getting Beth and my perscriptions filled for yeast, and I had not fed her in two hours - a long period of time for her thus I needed to nurse - especially with my 1/2hr drive home still to come. (The waiting area for persciptions to be filled is right by the blood pressure monitoring machine and let me tell you that machine in constently in use!)

Anyways, I was sitting with Thom while feeding Beth on the chair and an elderly man came with his friend - who was teaching him how to use the machine to test his blood pressure (unfortunatley it was high). After he was done and got up to put his coat back on he noticed Beth feeding for the first time.

The gentelman then proceeded to tell me how great it was that I was breastfeeding and how it will be much more convient for me without having to worry about sterilizing bottles, buying formula, getting a larger diaper bag to carry supplies, aways ensuring I have enough to go out, where as breastmilk is always available, the right temp and it will increase her immunity and possibly her intelligence and he continued to tell me how he heard all these fantastic benifts from a Doctor on a radio show. After he completed relating all the benifits he knew about breast feeding he told me to keep up the good work and left.

All I could say was 'Thank you' which seems like such a pathetic response since while he was telling me this, I was thinking about all the dirty looks I have gotten nursing in public and never have I had such a positive verbal reponse from someone much less a man and one whom I would guess to be in his late 70's or early 80's.

I wish that before he walked away I could have related how much his support ment to me and validated what I feel is the right choice for me.

Nice... what a great story. If only more people would take the time to encourage woman to try/continue breastfeeding... With an increase of support like that, it may make life a little easier for breastfeeding mommas.
