History Repeats Itself

Well, what are the odds that I would be able to tell similar stories as my mother?

Apparently, quite likley!

Story #1
On Monday, at Shoppers Drugmart after the nice encounter with the elderly man while I was paying for Beth and my perscriptions Thom took off running. He had taken a pair of bifocals off of a display and did not want to put them back. Luckly a Dora book display distracted him and he stopped - as I ran up behind him with my bucket car seat in tow and a large diaper bag flapping away.

Story #2
Today, I brought Beth to Sears to get her passport photo taken (which went quite well - I am 99% sure that Passport Canada will accept it), afterwards while I was nursing Beth my 'adventurer' took off his shoes and sweater. Once he had removed his outer clothing and I had started to put Beth into her bucket seat Thom took off yelling behind himself "catch me Mama" and proceeded to run into the main part of the store. Thus I left Beth with the photographer in her bucket and followed the clothing he had downed from the racks and found my son hiding underneath a rack of very long bathing suit coverups - luckly his shoe was showing so I could find him.

It seemed that he had a lot of energy so after collecting my other child and thanking the clerk I took Thom for a speed walk around the mall.

Story #3
By the time Thom had chilled out we were close to Please Mum and I wanted to check to see if they had the UV blocking shirts in a small size for Beth unfortunatley I got side tracked by the dino shirts on sale (6.99) and asked Thom if he'd like one. Of course my dino obsessed child said 'yes'. There were 7 or 8 styles to choose from I was holding them out asking Thom which he liked best by the time we got to the 3 style the 'adventurer' took off again however this time Beth was all strapped in and I was more prepared he only had just passed the exit of the store when I caught him.

I decided to get him a bagel to eat in the car as we were going to get Beth's weight taken, hoping that by feeding he would be well behaved at Christy's office. (Thom tends to act out when he is tired or hungry - like the rest of our family)

Story #4
Anyways we get to Christy's office and go into a family room long story short, I feed Beth a couple times, change her diaper, got her weight (8lb 11 and 1/2 oz naked), Christy holds/cuddles Beth, plays with Thom (who behaved excellently), I open a present for Beth (Thankyou Christy Phill and Cayman) and we chat for about 45 minutes. Then Thom wants to leave the room and does. I get hime back in the room and decide to call our outing to a close. After cleaning up the toys and getting our outdoor clothing on and Beth in her bucket we leave.

Story #5
However, Thom is not done for the day. Once we get to the car I let go of Thom's hand to open the van door (Beth is in my other hand) suprise! Thom takes off. I yell stop we are in a parking lot and run after him between the parked cars and grab his hood (unfortunatley it is the removable zipper kind) and the zipper is unzipping at this time a stranger grabs his arm to stop him. I strap him into the car seat and told him 'he cant run away and he could be killed and that would make Mama cry' then Thom started to cry after the emotional outpour (I did not cry if you were wondering).

Thom fell asleep for what feels like the first nap since Beth was born in the car on the drive home.

Although I did not need to be told or shown that Thom is my child, sometimes he does seem to act just like Jeff. Seeeing my child as a runner like I was really showed how he is a mixture of both of us.

As a side note when I ran away as a toddler I would make friends, if Thom had time I believe he would have aswell since with me he made friends with numerous elderly women and introduced 'his baby Baff' to many people in the mall which really shows that my tenacious child is very much like me. I am going to have a fun next couple of years ;)
